Rev. Weston J. Burnside Jr.

Services for the Rev. Weston J. Burnside Jr. will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Burnside, 47, of Slidell, La., formerly of Meridian, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in Slidell. He attended Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church. He was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout with the Choctaw Area Council. He was a 1979 graduate of Meridian High School. He was licensed in 1994 and ordained in 1995 as a minister from Russell Baptist Church. He received a masters' degree in pastoral ministries and evangelism from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He received a bachelor's degree in pastoral ministries and Christian education from New Orleans Baptist Undergraduate College. He served as pastor at Center Grove Baptist Church in Meridian. He served as minister of music at Arrowood Baptist Church in Meridian. He worked for Harper's Hospice Care in Meridian. He served as senior pastor at Pike's Park Peak Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was senior pastor at Oak Street Baptist Church in Kingman, Ariz. and was the musical worship leader at College Park Southern Baptist Church in Kingman. He was a singer and songwriter of Christian music and worked at Peavey Melody Music and taught private lessons. He worked with Larry Pinkham, owner of Rocky Ridge Recording Studio in Collinsville. He worked with Lon Abbott, owner of Taylor D Ranch and Recording Studios in Kingman. Rev. Burnside taught seminary in Quitman and worked at First Baptist Church in New Orleans. He taught English at Kingman Unified School District No. 20 and sophomore English at Mohave Community College in Kingman. At the time of his death, he was teaching at First Baptist Christian School in Slidell, since moving there in July 2008. Survivors include his sons, Weston J. Burnside III and Jonathan Weston Burnside, both of Louisiana; his mother, Betty L. Burnside of Meridian; sisters, Debbie D. Moulds of Rose Hill and Denise A. Burnside, of Meridian; a brother, Frank C. Bishop of Meridian; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends and coworkers. He was preceded in death by his father, Weston J. Burnside Sr.; a daughter, Hannah Margaret Burnside. Pallbearers will be William "Clay" Bishop, Tommy G. McNamara, Ronnie Pool, Kent Gibson, Michael E. Herrington and Gary G. Joyner. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Pinkham, Roy L. Moffett, M.J. Pogue, Lon Abbott, Gary D. Shelton, Brian S. Reeves, the Revs. Rick A. Kimsey and Ernie Nelson.
